Welcome to the 3rd Sefton East Scout Group

On the 27th of July 1955, Mrs Florence Dakin and Mrs Winifred Houston registered the 28th Ormskirk 4th Maghull Scout group, starting with 15 Wolf Cub Scouts.

With the changes of land boundary in 1974 we joined Merseyside and took on the title of 3rd Sefton East Scout Group, a title that we proudly retain today.

We have always met at our current premises at Maghull Methodist Church, and have had close links with the church ever since our early beginnings in1955, although we are an open denomination group and welcome members from all faiths.

The original Wolf Cub pack grew into a Scout Troop, Venture Scout Unit and in 1982 welcomed our youngest section the Beaver Scouts. In 1991 we were the first group in Sefton to allow girls to join the group, and have had a strong female membership since that date.

In 1992 following the Challenge Aneka programme in Romania the group formed strong links with Romania through a project taking Romanian orphans on camping trips in Romania. Over the next 8 years no less than 14 of our leaders and Venture Scouts travelled to Romania, to take part in the project ?The Romanian Challenge Camp? The links we have made are still strong today, especially as 2 of our leaders married 2 of the Romanian translators who assisted us on the project.

The group has a strong leaning towards outdoor pursuits, we are fortunate enough to have a number of highly qualified mountaineering, archery, climbing and canoeing instructors amongst our leaders.

While many groups have closed, some re-opened and numbers have fluctuated, we at the 3rd have had a regular steady intake of children through all our sections. We currently have the proud boast that both the current District Commissioner and the County Commissioner have been members of our group in their younger days.

The group remains as strong as ever, with a dedicated and committed team of leaders supported by our Group council made up from friends, and parents of children in our group. We have recently celebrated our Golden anniversary with 50 years of scouting in our group, We offer a warm welcome to everyone who wishes to play a part in working towards our next 50 years.
